More Than Just a Summer Job
Applications for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) open now through March 12.
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's Youth Opportunities Office is seeking Virginia Beach residents ages 16-21 for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program. Each year, this career-building opportunity employs over 100 individuals to work at various City agencies and private businesses.
Interested applicants looking to have a meaningful summer job experience that provides financial literacy skills, mentorship, workplace readiness, coaching, an opportunity to earn money and more are encouraged to apply by March 12.
Participants will work 27 hours per week during the eight-week program, which runs from June 15 to Aug. 5. Orientation is from June 15-18 and the first day on the job is June 22. Applicants will be screened, interviewed and matched with prospective employers by SYEP staff.
In 2025, SYEP employed 137 individuals across 30 city agencies and four private businesses.
