Be in the Know: Resort Parking Rate Change and Oceanfront Construction in Effect

The Virginia Beach Oceanfront is transforming. It’s an exciting time for the City as it begins to grow into the next 60 years of growth. When you visit the Oceanfront this spring and summer, you’ll probably see some changes including ongoing construction, an easier parking experience, and more signage encouraging the use of parking apps.

To minimize any inconveniences caused by construction and parking changes in the Resort Area, a new webpage provides visitors with up-to-date information about construction timelines, important parking dates, and more.

Visit the site to view:

Construction

Numerous projects in the Resort Area are underway from sidewalk leveling along Atlantic Avenue to site work and updates to infrastructure. The City wants to ensure visitors know that despite the dust and debris due to construction, businesses at the Oceanfront are still open and ready to welcome patrons. The webpage also keeps the public informed about what projects are current and planned with the Capital Improvement Programs Dashboard.

Parking Updates

Parking rates have been updated to simply your experience. All City-owned parking in the Resort Area is now $2/hour. Parking Management is also introducing dynamic pricing for resort garages and lots during special events and weekends. What does that mean? During peak parking demand times on weekends and special events, the City will charge a flat rate at the garages and lots.

A quick note: Free parking available during the shoulder season will conclude March 31. Regular charges for parking meters and municipal parking lots will resume April 1. Beginning April 3, free on-street parking along Atlantic Avenue will be removed.

Parking Apps

Visitors are encouraged to use the VBGo and ParkMobile apps to help them find parking in real time, and easily pay for their parking space.

  • VBGo, the City’s events and parking app, allows users to ‘Text to pay’ for parking. It’s a simple, contactless transaction. Download on the App Store. Get it on Google Play.
  • ParkMobile allows users to easily pay everywhere City-owned parking is available in the Resort area. Users will get text alerts when time is about to expire. Download on the App Store. Get it on Google Play.
