Virginia Legends Live-Meet Patrick Henry A One-Man Performance Performed by Dave Maier
June 14, 8:30-9:45 p.m., 17th Street Stage, 1701 Atlantic Ave.
This one-man performance will detail the life and legacy of Patrick Henry, Delegate to the Virginia Conventions (1774-1776), first elected Governor of Virginia and staunch proponent of the Bill of Rights, Mr. Henry will discuss the important events of his life and times, giving special attention to his famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death,” speech delivered at St. John’s Church in Richmond.
Virginia Legends Live-Featuring The Marquis de Lafayette Performed by Charles Wissinger
Aug. 16, 8:30-9:45 p.m., 17th Street Stage, 1701 Atlantic Ave.
Lafayette was a French aristocrat who, at just 19 years old, was appointed a major general in the Continental Army. He commanded an army in Virginia and helped trap British commander Lord Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown forcing the British army’s surrender, which ultimately ensured the colonists’ victory in the Revolutionary War. Living Historian Charles Wissinger will bring the Marquis de Lafayette to life in this informative and entertaining program.
Both presentations are sponsored by the Virginia Beach VA250 Committee — part of the statewide commission to commemorate Virginia’s role in the 250th anniversary of American independence. For more information about the statewide celebration, visit VA250.org.
Virginia Legends Live is a historical performance program dedicated to preserving the history of Virginia Beach by educating about the influential leaders or legends of American history. Programs are possible through fundraising missions with the Virginia Legends Walk Foundation and are hosted by IMGoing. The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau partners with IMGoing through the Tourism Investment Program (TIP) fund on the Beach Events program of events for both locals and visitors.
