City leaders, residents, business representatives and municipal staff gathered on July 22 to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Lynnhaven Parkway Corridor Improvements Project.

Construction is set to begin within the next week on the infrastructure project, which extends from Lishelle Place to Interstate 264. Planned enhancements include upgraded pedestrian safety features such as new lighting, crosswalks and sidewalks, improved drainage, and the creation of a more connected and inviting environment for residents, visitors and businesses.

"This project will bring real, visible, positive change to one of the city's busiest and most important commercial corridors," said Emily Archer, deputy director of Economic Development. "Lynnhaven Parkway connects neighborhoods, business hubs, schools and shopping centers – and for a long time, it’s needed a makeover. These improvements aren’t just cosmetic – they support the ongoing economic vitality of the area while addressing concerns around pedestrian safety and accessibility."

Originally envisioned by former Rose Hall Councilmember Shannon Kane and more recently championed by District 3 Councilmember Michael Berlucchi, the project reflects ongoing community input. Residents and local business owners played a key role in shaping the priorities for the roadway and surrounding areas.

Motorists should expect lane reductions during construction, but full road closures are not anticipated. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027.
