Red Wing Park Closure for Roadway Improvement Project
Please be advised that Red Wing Park will re-open for the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival (March 29, 2025 – April 05, 2025) and close again in mid-April to allow for the completion of the roadway upgrades project. These upgrades will include widening the park's entryway and repaving the parking lots and park lanes to enhance traffic flow and safety.
During closures, all park facilities, including playgrounds, tennis courts, walking paths, athletic fields, and the dog park, will be unavailable. Dog owners are encouraged to visit Marshview Dog Park, located at 136 Marshview Drive, as an alternative.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve Red Wing Park for the community.
The Red Wing Park property was acquired by the county in 1879 and was formerly known as the "Old City Poor Farm." It was developed into a park by the City in 1966 and is now home to many gardens, including the Reba S. McClanan Fragrance Garden, established through the joint efforts of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and the Council of Garden Clubs of Virginia Beach, and the Miyazaki Japanese Garden.
