Virtual Bank On Financial Empowerment Classes Begin in February 2021

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Dec. 14, 2020) – The next round of free Bank On financial empowerment classes will begin in February 2021, with a program orientation kickoff the week of Jan. 18, 2021. Bank On Hampton Roads is a regional partnership of participating municipalities, banks, credit unions and community organizations, coordinated through the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, designed to connect unbanked and under-banked families to free or low-cost bank accounts and other resources leading to financial freedom.Through a series of monthly, two-hour classes, the program will provide attendees the opportunity to learn the skills needed to achieve greater financial freedom and independence. Participants in the five-month program are expected to attend one virtual class per month and work one-on-one with a personal financial coach. In addition to learning the basics of banking and money management, participants will learn strategies to overcome paycheck-to-paycheck living, reduce debt, increase savings, build a credit score and protect assets.With respect to the restrictions on large gatherings and the need for social distancing, the upcoming series of classes will be 100% virtual.
