Virginia Beach Public Works to Close Part of Mediterranean Avenue This Week
August 11, 2020

Virginia Beach Public Works has announced that work will resume on the Mediterranean and Cypress Avenue Sidewalk Project beginning Thursday, August 13, 2020. This work will require closing Mediterranean Avenue between 22nd and 24th Streets for approximately four weeks. The project consists of installing stormwater pipe and inlets located on Mediterranean Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets. The work was originally scheduled to be completed by August 1, but crews encountered problems due to a fiber optic cable belonging to Virginia Beach Public Schools that had to be relocated. The cable relocation is expected to be completed this week, and Virginia Paving crews will resume installation of the stormwater pipes and inlets on Thursday the 13th. Completing the total project will require approximately 60 days, with a tentatively scheduled completion date of early-to-mid November. Advanced warning signs will be clearly posted advising motorists of road section closing and the detour route. Citizens are urged to use alternate traffic routes when possible. All scheduled work is weather permitting. Virginia Paving is the contractor for the job. For additional information, please contact Mike Harper at (757) 407-6461.
