*Update*24-year-old Jayden Rae Witynski of Virginia Beach was arrested and charged with:Reckless Driving, hit & run, 2 counts of eluding police, 5 counts of assault on law enforcement and other traffic charges. On Wednesday July 29th 2020 at approximately 9:32am, a citizen advised officers that there was a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner near the intersection of Adam Keeling Road and West Great Neck Road. Officers observed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued travelling towards the oceanfront. Officers did not initiate a pursuit at this time, but continued to safely trail the vehicle, without their emergency equipment activated. The suspect vehicle began running red lights, and driving in a manner seemingly attempting to strike other vehicles on the roadway. Officers deployed stop sticks in multiple locations in efforts to stop the vehicle. The suspect continued recklessly driving throughout the resort area, still failing to stop after all four tires of the vehicle had been punctured by the stop sticks. As the suspect continued driving north on Atlantic from 40th street, away from the resort area, an on-duty supervisor authorized a pursuit due to the on-going threat to public safety. The driver of the suspect vehicle crashed into a marked police vehicle in the 5600 block of Atlantic Ave. and ultimately lost control of their vehicle and crashed in the 8200 block of Atlantic Ave. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle and resisted the officers' efforts to be taken into custody. A police K-9 was deployed to effect the arrest. The suspect was not bitten by the police K-9, but was treated for minor scratches at the scene.Charges are pending. This is still an active investigation, no further details are available at this time.MPO Linda J KuehnVirginia Beach Police / Public Affairs Officer
