ShotSpotter Activation Leads To A Quick Arrest
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On October 24, 2021, 11:23 p.m. Officers assigned to the Third Precinct were patrolling the Northridge neighborhood when they heard a single gunshot. A ShotSpotter activation alert came in simultaneously which notified the officers of gunfire in the 5300 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.
Officers converged on the area and located owner, Kenyatta T. Mabine, (M/22) standing outside of his parked vehicle. During the investigation, Mabine admitted to the officers that he had just fired one round from his handgun. The officers also located one spent shell casing in the area where Mabine’s vehicle was parked.
The ShotSpotter technology provided officers the necessary information to respond to a shooting incident, locate the involved individual and evidence, and take the necessary enforcement action to protect our community.
Mabine was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place.
