Sandler Center to Host Virtual Reception for New Gallery Exhibition on April 14
March 25, 2021

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts and the Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department are delighted to announce a virtual reception for "Florabunda – A Painted Garden" by artist Stephanie Lawing, at noon on April 14 on Facebook Live.

The event will be simulcast live on both the Virginia Beach Arts and Sandler Center Facebook pages. The recording will also be made available on vbgov.com/culture after the live stream.

Born in New York and now living in Virginia Beach, floral artist Stephanie Lawing's work reflects "a universal desire to find a moment where the world fades away in favor of something simple, natural and beautiful." Lawing uses mostly acrylic paint and photos as her medium, and regularly heads out into nature to seek out the perfect bloom for her next inspiration.

"My paintings celebrate petals that twist, turn and head in all directions as if in caught in a breeze," said Lawing. "Their delicate folds, creases, hollows, and hills roll through the composition. Their colors range from muted creams and yellows, to the most vibrant and exciting colors hues nature produces. My hope is that my paintings might provide a stunning image to be considered in detail and admired at length."

Lawing's work will be on display in the Sandler Center Art Gallery until September 2021. A date for an in-person closing reception is still to be determined. Artwork in the gallery is also available for purchase. Visit www.stephanielawing.com to learn more about Stephanie Lawing and to purchase her artwork.
