VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation (VBPR) is joining with other park agencies across the nation to celebrate 35 years of July is Parks & Rec Month, a program of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The goal is to create awareness and educate the public about the essential nature of the department and impact that parks, recreation, and conservation have on communities. With close to 300 parks and seven community recreation centers, VBPR wants everyone to learn more about the organization and how we make a difference in resident's lives."Great cities have great park systems, and great park systems help make cities great," said Michael Kirschman, Director of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation. "With park attendance up 16% in the last few months and folks flocking to join our free online group fitness classes, we have really seen just how essential our parks and services are. As we slowly resume normal operations, we hope to continue to see people taking advantage of all that we have to offer and learning more about who we are."VBPR has lined up several ways individuals and families can partake in the Parks & Rec Month festivities including:Parks & Rec IQ TestTake an online trivia quiz and enter to win "A Night on the Town" which includes an overnight stay at the Hyatt Place at Town Center, two vouchers for a 20/21 event from Zeiders American Theater, a cookbook and $50 gift card from Tupelo Honey restaurant. Another winner will receive a $100 VBPR gift card.Barks & Rex BINGOCheck off some fun adventures by connecting with friends, family, and our local environment with "Barks & Rex BINGO." With outdoor and at-home options, get active with us and complete this Parks & Rec Month BINGO challenge for a chance to win a picnic shelter rental at one of our gorgeous parks. Second place will win a VBPR swag bag. To enter, download the bingo card and submit it when you've gotten a BINGO.Commemorative T-shirtsSupport the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Foundation by purchasing a commemorative Parks & Rec t-shirt. These custom-designed shirts come in two designs with multiple styles and colors to choose from.
