Fatal Crash - Dam Neck Road

​VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - June 01, 2021 at 3:00 am, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications (VBECCS) received reports of a two- vehicle crash in the 2500 block of Dam Neck Road. Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a Nissan pick-up truck was travelling eastbound on Dam Neck Road when it became disabled. The driver of the Nissan was on foot, tending to his vehicle when a GMC Sport Utility Vehicle impacted the rear of the truck. The pedestrian sustained life threatening injuries and the two passengers of the Nissan were transported to local hospitals with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

After impact with the Nissan, the GMC rolled and struck a tree in the center median, causing the vehicle to catch fire. The driver, and only occupant of the GMC was pronounced deceased on scene. Speed and intoxication are believed to be contributing factors of this crash.

The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Nicolas William Radelt of Smithfield, Va.
