City’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial Canceled
The annual Memorial Day Ceremony, typically held each Memorial Day at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial and hosted by the Mayor's Veterans Committee, was canceled earlier this spring as part of the Governor's Executive Order. While health and safety restrictions will be lifted this Friday, May 28, the traditional program requires preparation in advance. A wreath will be placed at the Tidewater Veteran's Memorial Monday morning in honor of all the service men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Mayor Robert M. "Bobby" Dyer has prepared a video message to the community asking citizens to take time on Memorial Day to remember all the brave men and women of the armed services who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The video will be cablecast on VBTV Cox channel 48 and Verizon channel 45 on Monday, May 31, 2021, beginning at 8 a.m. and will air at the top of every hour throughout Memorial Day. The video message will also be available on the City's YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/6plHn2Py5iQ and the City's facebook.com/CityofVaBeach, twitter.com/CityofVaBeach and instagram.com/cityofvabeach pages.
The Committee is anticipating a vibrant, traditional ceremony in 2022.
