City Monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa; Gusty Winds, Periods of Heavy Rain Expected
July 8, 2021

The City of Virginia Beach is monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa as it makes its way up the East coast. The latest forecasts call for one to three inches of rain that may be heavy at times, gusty winds, and the potential for flooding in isolated areas, especially in the Southern watershed in the areas that typically flood.

City crews have been checking/vacuuming storm drains, clearing ditches and servicing pump stations around the city. Residents should clear any obvious blockages from around storm drains and ditches in their areas. For interior storm drain maintenance, call (757) 385‐1470 or make a service request online. Service requests can also be submitted through the VB Works app, available on iPhone and Android.

Steps Residents Can Take To Reduce Risks:

  • Remove and secure objects from outside your home and business that may become projectiles during high winds
  • Don't drive through flooded roadways
  • Download the free Ready Virginia app for iPhone and Android devices. The app contains an emergency supply checklist and will stream statewide emergency information
