City Manager Appoints New Public Works Director
Following a nationwide search, City Manager Patrick Duhaney has selected L.J. Hansen, P.E. as the City's new public works director. Hansen has more than 20 years of experience in technical and environmental engineering, including a strong background in administration, budgets, fiscal oversight and project management. He will begin work in Virginia Beach on April 8.
"Hansen is a proven leader with extensive experience in managing budgets and complex engineering projects," said Duhaney. "He will help us advance new initiatives and services that enhance and protect our community."
Hansen is currently director of Public Works for the City of Suffolk. He began his career there in 2007 as a civil engineer and was promoted over the years. He was appointed Public Works director in 2018.
Hansen earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering (with a bio-resource emphasis) from Montana State University in 1993 and served in the U.S. Air Force as a military police officer.
