VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept. 9, 2021) – This Saturday, Sept. 11, marks the 20th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington County, VA and aboard Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA.

To commemorate this moment in our nation's history, 'Carry On' will host the 2nd annual "9/11 Honor Carry" on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront with members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue (VA-TF2), Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services, Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office, as well as active-duty military and veterans.

Volunteers will carry a seven-foot long, 700-pound 9/11 Honor Log, developed by the non-profit organization, Carry On, starting at noon. The route for the 9/11 Honor Carry is from 40th to 34th street on the boardwalk and will commence at the Navy SEAL Memorial at 38th Street. Honor Bearer's will rotate carrying the memorial icon over a four-hour span (Noon to 4 p.m.) to pay tribute to and honor the sacrifice of fallen first responders on Sept. 11, 2001. The 9/11 Honor Log was carved by Cameron Dockery of Lubbock, Texas, and was unveiled during last year's event.

According to Jeremy Soles, the executive director of "Carry On" an IRS registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization,"…the men and women who responded in 2001 and in the years since, have willingly carried that burden with honor and pride. The 'Honor Log' is a testament to their spirit of dedication, service, and constant remembrance of the lives lost and changed forever by forces that ultimately did not dampen our spirits or break our resolve."

For the members of Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue team, the opportunity to participate in this event is not only a fitting tribute, but it also offers an opportunity for closure on a mission that forever changed their lives.
