VB Fire Department Suspends Food Donation Collections

Virginia Beach, VA – April 10, 2020 - Due to the COVID-19 health emergency and social distancing directives, the Virginia Beach Fire Department has suspended the collection of food donations at all their fire stations. The VBFD, through their "Extinguish Hunger" program, has collected food donations brought to their fire stations by the generous citizens of Virginia Beach for distribution by the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for many years. Although it has become necessary to modify the "Extinguish Hunger" program, the VBFD remains a strong partner with the Foodbank and encourages citizens to continue donating to this important organization. The need for food is especially acute at this time.

The Foodbank is accepting donations of food, hygiene, and baby iproducts at multiple distribution sites throughout their service area. These donations can be dropped off at the addresses listed below on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon:

Hilltop Family YMCA - 1536 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA - 4441 South Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452
