*Update* Search Efforts Continue for Missing Elderly Woman

​On Saturday, February 20th at 6:50 am, members of the Tidewater Search and Rescue Team located Shu-Jin Wu, deceased in the1600 block of General Booth Blvd. She was located in a dense part of a creek bed that runs behind the shopping center.

This is a tragic ending, as everyone involved in the search had remained hopeful that she would have been located safe.

We are appreciative of the outpouring of support and assistance from the community who took the time and care to assist with the search efforts.

The Virginia Beach Police Departments Missing Persons Unit is continuing to solicit information from anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of a missing senior citizen, 76- year-old Shu-Jin Wu.

Virginia Beach Emergency Communications received a call at 10:37 am on February 16th to report that Shu-Jin was missing. She was last seen at her residence, in the 1500 block of Gallery Av, that morning at approximately 7:30 am. It is believed that Shu-Jin left on foot. She does not have a cell phone and does not speak English.

Responding officers took the initial report and immediately started canvassing the area, talking to neighbors and business owners to ascertain if any surveillance video could assist in determining where she may have gone. Police K-9 and the police helicopter were utilized to further the search efforts. Investigators also contacted Virginia State Police to request a Silver Alert be issued for Shu-Jin.

Search efforts continued throughout the evening to include notifying local hospitals and transportation outlets as well as alerting other local jurisdictions. On Wednesday morning, Tidewater Search and Rescue initiated their response and currently have 40 volunteers participating in the search efforts. A reverse 911 call is being issued to alert the residents of surrounding neighborhoods to be on the lookout for Shu-Jin.
