*Update* Officer Involved Shooting - 300 Block Garrison Place

*Update*The decedent has been identified as 49-year-old Refugio Reynaldo Olivo Jr. of Virginia Beach.​On September 6th, 2020 at 4:26 am, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a violent domestic that was occurring in the 300 block of Garrison Place. The caller provided information that the suspect was armed with a knife and had threatened to kill the victim.Responding officers encountered the suspect on scene, who was armed with bladed weapons. After ignoring the officers' directives to drop the weapons, the suspect retreated to another room in the house, with the victim, and barricaded the door.The officers clearly heard the victim in distress, at which time they breached the door. Upon entry to the room, the officers observed the adult male suspect restraining the female victim, who was suffering from obvious injury.Two officers fired their service weapons, striking the suspect. The officers immediately rendered aid to both the suspect and the victim of the domestic as EMS was responding. The adult female victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene.This is an active investigation, which is being conducted by the Virginia Beach Police Departments Detective Bureau as well as the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney and the Virginia Beach Police Department's Office of Internal Affairs. As standard procedure, the officers involved will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation. Both involved officers are assigned to the 1st precinct uniform patrol division, one is a 10-year veteran of the department and the other has been with the department for 3 ½ years.The decedents identity will be released after next of kin notification has been made.There are no further details to release at this time.
