StoryWalks® Provide Families a Fun Path for Reading, Exploring Together

Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) is offering a variety of socially-distanced, outdoor StoryWalk® programs that encourage children and their families to read and learn together. A StoryWalk® features pages of a children's book, deconstructed into panels and placed along a path at a library or other location. As families follow the path to read the story, parents will find tips on how to practice early literacy skills with their children, and children will enjoy suggested activities based on what's happening in the story.

"VBPL has been providing virtual storytime programs for children and families since the onset of the pandemic," said Katie Cerqua, youth and family services manager for VBPL. "While our virtual programs are popular, the StoryWalk® concept provides an opportunity for families to step away from their computer screens for a bit to experience a story together and explore nature at the same time."
