Serious crash 1400 Block of S. Independence Road

​UPDATE:The roadway is now reopen to all traffic.On Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 2:42 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for a two vehicle crash in the 1400 block of S. Independence Boulevard. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim. The second vehicle fled the scene. Police are looking for the second vehicle which is a burgundy older model Ford Explorer with front/driver side damage. The male victim had to be extricated out of the vehicle by members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department. The victim was the driver and the only occupant in the vehicle. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police ask that you please avoid the area of S. Independence Boulevard. The traffic is extremely heavy and is being diverted so police can do the investigation for this crash. This case is still very active and the roadway is expected to be closed for the next hour. We are asking you to use S. Plaza Trail at this time. This release will be updated once the roadway is reopened. This case remains under investigation by members of the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT). No other information is available at this time.
