Oceanfront Area Library to Close for Renovation, Saturday, June 26

Virginia Beach Public Library's (VBPL) Oceanfront branch will close for renovations beginning Saturday, June 26 at 5 p.m. Customers who have items on hold may pick them up at the Great Neck Area Library at 1251 Bayne Drive, starting Monday, June 28 at 10 a.m. During the closure, customers may visit any other VBPL branch for in-person services and programs and also download items from VBPL's digital library.

Expected to take about five months, the renovations include new front doors, a new help desk, updated lobby, public restrooms and teen area, updated meeting and study rooms, expanded children's area, a new multi-purpose programming area, new public computer workstations and new furniture and carpet.

Oceanfront Area Library's renovation is part of the second phase of VBPL's $5.8 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to renovate eight of 10 locations. All libraries except the Wahab Public Law Library (updated in 2018) and the TCC/City Joint-Use Library (built in 2013) have been or will be updated. Updates were completed at Princess Anne, Bayside, Kempsville and Central Libraries in 2019, and at Pungo-Blackwater in 2020. Renovations at the Great Neck branch are expected to begin later in 2021.
