Department of Human Services Reopening to the Public on March 15

The Department of Human Services (DHS) will reopen its doors to the public once more on Monday, March 15, under modified conditions. Day Programs such as SkillQuest, Beach House, and the Day Treatment program will remain closed until further notice.

"We are pleased to reopen our doors once again and serve our clients through more traditional means and in a manner that is safe for all involved," said DHS Director Aileen L. Smith. "Our dedicated staff have worked diligently throughout the pandemic, whether from the office or at home, to serve the needs of our community. We look forward to continuing that work, providing access to vital programs and services that impact the daily lives of families and individuals in Virginia Beach."

Although the Department will be open to the public, customers are encouraged to connect with services electronically whenever possible to limit the number of people in the facilities at any given time. In the event a face-to-face meeting is necessary, it should be scheduled by appointment and held in a setting where social distancing can be maintained to the greatest extent possible. Exceptions will be made in the event that crisis intervention or an immediate response is required.

In accordance with Governor Northam's executive order requiring face coverings to be worn while in public, we respectfully ask that any visitors do so as they are able. In the event an individual is not able to wear a face covering under any of the exemptions outlined in the order, we will accommodate their needs in a manner that is safe for all involved. We will not deny services, however we may provide those services through alternative means when necessary and appropriate to do so.
