Commonwealth v. Laurence Stephen Drolet; Indecent Exposure Near Daycare Yields 5-Year Prison Sentence

Virginia Beach, Va. – Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that Laurence Stephen Drolet, age 66, formerly of the 3500 block of Chester Street in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge James C. Lewis for two (2) counts of felony Indecent Exposure. Judge Lewis sentenced Drolet to ten (10) years in prison with five (5) years suspended, leaving five (5) years to serve. Drolet must also register as a sex offender.

Drolet pled guilty on April 26, 2021. Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth's evidence would have proven that on December 2, 2020, Laurence Stephen Drolet exposed himself at his front door, which is across the street from First Discovery Academy daycare. An employee of the daycare noticed Drolet and called police because parents were starting to drop their children off. Police responded to Drolet's house, and when Drolet came to the door, the witness identified him as the naked male.

The witness told police that on November 24, 2020, she saw Drolet naked, shimmying his hips at his front door. Other daycare employees also witnessed this behavior. Parents were dropping off their children on that day and could observe Drolet's actions.

Drolet has seven (7) prior convictions for Indecent Exposure and two (2) prior convictions for Sexual Display: Masturbation-Actual/Simulated. These offenses also occurred at Drolet's house.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Scott C. Vachris prosecuted this case. Please contact Macie Allen if additional information is desired.
